Visit to Beaubair's Island, Miramichi (North. Co.) ... As the traveller ascends up the bank from the landing, the first object that catches his eye is the old brick house, which is in itself a wonder, although in a state of decay. ... As you leave the old mansion the next object to catch your eye is the familyburying ground. This is a small plot of ground not over 20 by 50 feet with a wooden rail around it and is dotted over with about a dozen large trees, there being in the centre a large stone vault containing the following inscription: Joseph RUSSELL, L.D.S. / Burying Ground. Your correspondent made many enquiries about the former owner of the Island and learned that at one time he had been a wealthy ship builder, and one having visited England with his wife, one their way out were converted to Mormonism and instead of returning home went straight to Salt Lake City where Mr. Russell spent the remainder of his life.
