By letter dated 26th April, received by Thos. D. HENDERSON of Saint John city from his son Charles HENDERSON written from port of Spain, Trinidad, we learn of the drowning of mate of schr. "St. John" on 24th of the month, The mate, Mr. MacNAMARA of Parrsboro, N.S., age 36, was engaged calking the port bow port, when the stage on which he was working became loose and he fell into the water. Being unable to swim, Mr. Henderson jumped overboard and carried a line to him by which he was drawn to the bow of the vessel. The captain and two hands at the time being ashore with the small boat necessitated the launching from the davits of the long boat which took considerable time and when the two men were drawn into the boat, the mate was dead. An inquest was held 25th and 26th.
