We are in receipt of well authenticated particulars of a murderous attack made upon John L. TURNER, Esq. of Baker Brook (Victoria Co.) on Friday morn. TURNER left Fish River on morn. 21st. by mail stage for Presque Isle. After travelling a short distance, a horse and sleigh driving at a furious rate, was observed in pursuit; the party in the sleigh beckoning the driver to hold up, which he did. The pursuing party proved to be Henry N. WEST of Fish River, who invited Mr. TURNER to come and ride with him, which invita- tion TURNER at once accepted, little thinking what was in store for him. WEST soon made a demand on TURNER for payment for flour and pork. TURNER replied that it was impossible for him to do so just then. WEST immediately attacked him with a heavy whip, afterwards drawing a revolver with which he beat TURNER on the head, knocking him down, and attempt- ing to take some money which WEST supposed he had on his person. TURNER barely escaped with his life. Officers of justice are in pursuit of WEST. - Victorian Guardian
