Capt. INNESS of barque "Scammell Bros." writing to Harris REID, Harvey (Albert Co.) gives particulars of the drowning of his son Charles REID second mate. The accident happened on 30th Sept. at 4 o'clock in the morn. during a heavy gale. He lost his own life trying to save others. They were furling the main topsail when Stack EDGETT and another man fell from the yard overboard. The mate and myself were trying to get them on board when Charlie came down from aloft and without stopping to think, hove a rope over the side and got on it to try to help them, when a heavy sea must have washed him off, for we did not see him afterwards, for it was so dark we could not see who we were hauling at the time. - Moncton 'Times'
