A determined attempt at murder occurred last eve. at Melbourne aboard the Canadian ship "Earl Granville" which had just arrived and was berthed at the town pier. The master is Capt. William Harvey COPP and is accompanied by his wife and two youngest children. The cook on board in an Englishman by the name of ABBOTT, shipped at Liverpool, who caused the disturbance. Capt. W.H. Copp is the eldest son of Samuel COPP of Waterside (Albert Co.) and his wife is a daughter of Capt. Hugh SHIELDS of Alma. The assault was made Dec. 28, 1888. (see original 'Attempted Murder')
