On Saturday afternoon, death removed our citizen C.D. EVERETT. Mr. Everett was born at Fredericton on the last day of December 1803. In 1824 he started business as a manufacturer and trader in hats and furs, having establishments in Fredericton, Miramichi and St. John. The great Miramichi fire destroyed his business in that place and, strange to say, his Fredericton home was burned on the same day. He then removed to St. John and concentrated his business here. For many years he had with him the late David STACKHOUSE and after him, Wm SEELEY, lately in the Dominion Audit office. In 1848, Mr. Everett took his son, Chas. A. EVERETT into business with him and the firm was known as C.D. Everett & Son. The senior member retired in 1866 and Edwin J. EVERETT joined the firm, which has since done business under the name C.& E. Everett. In 1833, Mr. Everett procured a steam engine from England, which is believed to be the first ever used on this continient for the manufacturer of hats. In his early years he was also the part proprietor of a flour and a saw and grist mill. He was one of the oldest advocates of temperance and also a prominent member of the Baptist denomination. In 1825 he was married to a daughter of the late Wm PETERS. She died 20 years ago. He was married in 1870 to a Miss GREEN of New York, who still lives. He had seven sons, all of whom are living. The oldest, William P. EVERETT is a clergyman in Illinois. The youngest son, Frank EVERETT is in the same city. George F. EVERETT is the superintendant of the money order dept. at Ottawa and the other four are engaged in business in this city.
