Charles READ, a man close on his 80th year, made application to the Premier recently for money to defray his expenses to Halifax. Read, when 19 years of age, was drafted into the British army in Edinburgh and was in active service 21 years - holding at one time the position of Sgt. Major in the 101st Battalion of Royal Regiment. Since his discharge from the army, he worked in the United States and Canada. coming recently to this Province, where he met with an accident which prevents from work. He thinks he will enlist the sympathy of the military authorities in Halifax and be supported. The Premier furnished him with a ticket to Halifax and a sum sufficient to defray his expenses thither. - 'Charlottetown, P.E.I. Examiner'
