It seems that a fortune of $40,000,000 has long been held by the Bank of England for the Linton family of which Mrs. JAMES, Mrs. E.R. O'BRIEN and Mrs. A.C. GRANT of this place would be presumptive heirs. It seems that John LINTON who came out to this country in 1692, was the second s/o Earl Tanney and had been educated for the Anglican ministry at Oxford. He afterwards, against the wishes of his family, became a Quaker, and leaving home, came with many others to Pennsylvania to swell Penn's colony, already founded there, and located in Buck's County. His elder brother Sir Roger LINTON, never married, and upon his death, the entire estate should have been passed into the late John Linton's hands, but he could not be found. He had four children and his son Joseph LINTON was the great grandfather of the present, Mrs. NUTTER of Oak Bay (Charlotte Co.). Other branches of the family reside in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. A united effort is being made by the different branches of the family to prove their descent from the original John Linton, and documantary evidence is being collected here and forwarded to W.S. LINTON, attorney-at-law and Mayor of Saginaw, Michigan, who already has much evidence in his possession and feels confident of proving his claim.
