To the Editor of the Daily News - letter from Boston, Mass. dated Oct. 3rd, 1869 - Dear Sir: Having noticed a paragraph in your paper to the effect that my brother, Chas. M. SLOAN, who died in this city, had confessed to the murder of Wm HUMBERT, I take liberty of refuting it, and while I prove undeniably that it is false and cruel slander, I would kindly request the name of your informant that justice may be done to the memory of him whose last moments were not darkened by the memory of such a crime. It is strange, if such a confession was made, that I, his brother, the Physician, the Nurses who attended him, and all those who kindly visited and cheered his sick and lonely hours should not have heard of it, until in glancing over your paper, it met my eye, and I immediately investigated the matter and herewith forward you the names of those who waited upon him to the last, and were with him all through his illness here, all of whom are willing to affirm that no such confession was made to them, and therefore the mystery is not solved, but another sin added to the perpetrator's misdeeds in allowing an innocent man's memory to suffer for his vileness. Yours respectfully (signed) Robert B. SLOAN - We the undersign do hereby affirm that no such confession was made to us (signed) Dr. Charles CULLIS, per Mrs. M.E. ELLIOT; Matrons: Mrs. M.E. ELLIOT, Sarah J. DAVIS; Nurse: Mrs. A. LOSNER, of the Consumptive's Home, 11 Williard St., Boston; Seymour AGNEW, Frederick WILSON, Peter ROACH, Joseph NICHOL, Henry ROBINSON, William PEARCE, Wm CURRIGAN, John PARKS, A. WILSON.
