On Friday last, Alonzo CALDER of Fairhaven, Deer Island (Charlotte Co.) received a telegram conveying the sad news that his son, Capt. George P. CALDER, master of Calais schr. "C.B. Paine", had been drowned at Portsmouth. The body, which had been recovered, was immediately sent home and on Sunday the funeral took place from Alonzo Calder's residence. Rev. A.H. Mcleod conducted the service. The deceased was 23 years of age and unmarried. He had been prominent in temperance and other good work on the Island. One of his brothers is master of a Gloucester fishing vessel which is now at Greenland. There are two other brothers who are now at sea and three sisters. His death made the first break in the family circle.
