Many friends will learn with regret of the demise of Rev. J.R. LAWSON , pastor of the Reformed Presbyterian Church at barnesville (Kings Co.). He had suffered from a severe paralytic stroke nine years ago and has since suffered considerably from its affects. The deceased gentleman leaves nine children, two sons and seven daughters. One of the sons is Dr. J.J. LAWSON, Norton and the other, Joseph LAWSON is in business in Boston. James Reid LAWSON son of James LAWSON and Elizabeth REID was born in Rathfriland, County Down, Ireland, May 23, 1820. He received his early education in the schools of his native vicinity and graduated from Belfast Academical Institution in 1841. He studied theology in the Seminary of Paisley, Scotland and was licenced for the southern presbytery, Ireland, March 4, 1845. He was ordained by the same presbytery September 1845, as missionary to the British North America provinces. He arrived in St. John, N.B. the same fall and after visiting different parts of th Maritime Provinces, settled in South Stream, now Barnesville in the spring of 1846. Here he labored faithfully for 10 years and gathered a congregation which he resigned October 17, 1856. He was installed pastor of the congrgation of Boston, Mass., Nov. 20, 1856 and resigned Oct. 22, 1857. He returned to Barnesville where he continued to labor until partial paralysis caused his resignation April 12, 1882. He married Miss Margaret HASTINGS, July 1, 1851, to whom were born two sons and seven daughters, all of whom survive him. Among his published writings are 'The Character of Joseph, or Young Man's Model'; 'The Millineum'; Correspondence on Psalmody with the editor of the St. John Telegraph and British Elective Franchise.
