Shortly before 6 o'clock yesterday morn., Frank BECKWITH, a sailor on board Schr. "Ettie", lying at Dunn';s wharf left his vessel and started to mail a letter to his parents which he had written the previous night. It being quite dark and the wharf being in a somewhat delapitated condition, it is supposed Beckwith stumbled and fell into the water His shipmate, Charles LEWIS, was on the wharf at the time and hearing Beckwith cry out, rushed to the spot and threw a plank overboard, but he failed to grasp it. Lewis then boarded the "Inglewood" and with the mate of that schooner put off in a boat, but Beckwith had sunk before they arrived. Bernard CRAFT about 8 o'clock started grapplying for the body and in a short time found it. Coroner White held an inquest and a verdict of accidental drowning was found. Beckwith belonged to Harvey (Albert Co.) and was a young man between 19 and 20 years of age. A brother of the deceased is a sailor on board the schr. "Galatea" at present in port and he will take charge of the body.
