Stalwart Pioneers - In the early settlement of this county, a Mr. George REED, with his six sons came into Carleton County. In Williamstown he took up Government land, without roads or means of conveyance except carrying provisions on their backs for many miles for the sustenance of themselves and families. They located where they were near each other, and amid provations and many hardships, they all succeeded and became independent farmers.
