Fredericton, Feb. 11 - Judge WELDON died this morn. On 11th June next Judge Weldon would be 80 years old. John Wesley WELDON was of English descent. His grandfather came to New Brunswick from England in 1754, before it was a British Province. His father was John WELDON, Esq. of Dorchester (West. Co.) where the late Judge was born. The deceased judge studied law first with the late Hon. William BOTSFORD and when Mr. Botsford was made judge, he finished his studies in the office of late Gov. CHANDLER. He was called to the bar in 1827 and was made a Q.C. in 1843. Mr. Weldon located in Richibucto (Kent Co.) He was elected to the House of Assembly for Kent Co. in 1827 and sat until 1851, when he lost his seat. He filled the position of Executive Councillor from 1837 to 1841, which office he resigned owing to differences with William COLEBROOK on a constitutional question of the day. A new House met in 1843. Mr. Weldon was chosen SPEAKER and continued in that position until 1851. He continued to reside in Richibucto until 1857 when he removed to St. John. On 30th Nov. 1865, Mr. Weldon was elevated to the Bench. Mr. Weldon was twice married. First to Frances Chandler UPHAM d/o Judge UPHAM. She died in 1814. Second, to Susan HALIBURTON, famous humorist and writer, who survives him. Charles Wesley WELDON, M.P. for St. John Co., is issue by the first marriage.
