The news of the death of Dr. Laurence MacLAREN was received with universal regret. His death was a great surprise, as he had been ill for few days only and many did not know that he was confined to his house. He had not been strong, however, since two years ago when he was suddenly taken ill while on a visit to Toronto. Dr. MacLaren was a native of P.E.I., having been born in Charlottetown, 75 years ago. In 1837 he went to Edinburgh where he studied medicine in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons/ On completion of his studies he returned to Canada, locating in Richibutco (Kent Co.) where he gained a reputation as a successful practicioner and skilful surgeon. After 25 years residence at Richibucto, Dr. MacLaren came to St. John where he has since resided. Dr. MacLaren leaves a widow, four sons and five daughters. Mrs. MacLaren was a Miss JARDINE, sister of David JARDINE of Messrs. Farnworth & Jardine, Liverpool, with which firm two of her sons are now connected. Dr. Murray MacLAREN and John S. MacLAREN of the customs are also sons of the deceased. Mrs. Turner WILSON, Toronto, one of the daughters, arrived in the city yesterday. The funeral takes place tomorrow afternoon from the residence on Charlotte Street.
