Jonathan WEIR, a native of Scotland, came to Pictou, N.S. in 1834 and in 1837 moved to Moncton and erected a machine shop. In 1859 he turned out the first steam engine ever built in the town. He manufactured a great deal of mill machinery, but of late has been devoted more time to repairs of locomotives. Among the engines he has built are one for Humphrey's mills, one for the sugar refinery, one for the Record Foundry and Machine Co. and one for his own use. He built the boiler for the Electric Light station, the pumping station, one for John A. Humphrey and others. His son, John P. WEIR, formerly in charge of the machinery dept. of the sugar refinery, is now associated with Mr. Weir in business.
