On 25th ult, a young man, Edward SPITTLE, carpenter by trade was unfortunately drowned while bathing in Musquash River ashort distance below Lancaster Mills (St. John). His body was found next morn. and an inquest held before G.C. Carman. 2364 (St. Andrews, 30th June) On Monday last a small boat in which five individuals were passing across the bay was upset and four were drowned. It had been stated that one of the number, Hector LELAND was intoxicated and by his staggering about occasioned the catastrophy. The others who met a watery grave were John CAMERON, Margaret HEGARTY, Jane McVICAR, the last the daughter and sister of two individuals bearing the same name - Niven McVICAR - who met a similar fate within the last five years crossing the same sheet of water. Peter CAMERON, the only person saved, was picked up by a boat from Eastport in the middle of the bay. This is the second time he has been placed in such perilous circum stances. All parties belonged to Mascareen (Charlotte Co.)
