When the Loyalists landed in St. John in 1783, among those who settled there were Elias WRIGHT and family from Pennsylvania. Mr. Wright was the first man to build a house in that city. After living there for some time, he removed to Beaver Harbor. The family consisted of two children Ann WRIGHT and Elias WRIGHT. The former married Christopher CROSS; the latter, Mary WALTON. Mrs. Christopher Cross had a family of nine boys and girls. They are now between the ages of 84 and 60, and all are living. The names and ages are as follows: Ann CROSS married Wm ASH, age 84, residing at Beaver Harbor; Rachel CROSS, married to Thomas PARKER, age 82, living in Nova Scotia; Elias CROSS, age 80, living in Beaver Harbor; Elizabeth CROSS, married Leonard BEST, age 76, living in Beaver Harbor; Woodward CROSS, age 74, living in Beaver Harbor; Mary CROSS, married Louis HOLMES, age 72, living in Beaver Harbor; Amy CROSS, married John BAKER, age 70, residing in Eastport, Me.; George CROSS, age 63, residing in Beaver Harbor; Hannah CROSS, married Fulton NASH, age 60, living on Campobello. Mrs. Best has in her possession a pair of satin slippers which her grandmother wore when she was married in England more than 140 years ago. Mrs. Nash's grandchild also wore them when she was married.
