Hants 'Journal' - Joseph ALLISON passed away on Sunday after a brief illness. Was born in Newport, N.S. in 1815. Received his education in Halifax, in which city he was for some time bookkeeper in the employ of Joseph Allison & Co., afterwards Fairbanks & Allison, the latter being David ALLISON, uncle of the deceased. Leaving Halifax he commenced a general business in 1840 in Windsor, in company with Nathaniel CALKIN. He was instrumental in originating the Avon Marine Insurance Co. of which he was secretary until 1866. For a number of years was high sheriff of the county. Since 1866 he has been connected with H.M. Customs in Windsor and was at his post until about a month ago, when he was taken sick. He was the son of the late John ALLISON of Oaklands who at his death was the oldest magistrate in the county, being then 84 years of age. There are four brothers living, George ALLISON, age 80 and David P. ALLISON, who reside in Windsor. Robert W. ALLISON and William B. ALLISON who reside in Newport. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. McMurray.
