The 'Moniteur Acadien' of yesterday contained a sketch of the life of Madame Euphroisine LEBLANC. The lady, relict of Amable LEGER of Barachois (West. Co.) celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday, 4th July, her parents being Augustin LEBLANC and Cecile CORMIER. The house in which Madame Leger was born was situated near the place now occupied by D.A. BOURGEOIS, Fox Creek. The subject of the sketch was married 20th October 1806 to Amable Leger, son of Joseph LEGER and Marguerite MAILLET, she being then 17 years of age and her husband, 21. The were married by Rev. Father Ciquard, cure of Memramcook and lived together for 64 years, or until the death of Mr. Leger, March 20th, 1870, at age 85. The couple had a numerous family as follows: children, 11 of whom 7 are living; grandchildren 105 of whom 75 are living; great grandchildren, 222 of whom 192 are living; and great-great grandchildren, 19 of whom 18 are living. Mme. Leger was one of a family of ten brothers and sisters as follows: Augustin LEBLANC married Gertrude BOURQUE; Thebean LEBLANC married Julie DUPIUS; Francoise LEBLANC married Jean BABINEAU; Nathalie LEBLANC married Jos. Dom. BABINEAU; Euphroisine LEBLANC married Amable LEGER; Rosalie LEBLANC married Marcei LEBLANC; Marguerite LEBLANC married Joseph LEBLANC; Anastadie LEBLANC married Joseph POIRIER; Simon LEBLANC married Marguerite DUPUIS. Euphroisine is a great-grand daughter of Rene LEBLANC of Minas, immortalized by the poet Longfellow and among the family connections are Rev. Francois X. BABINEAU, first Acadian priest in New Brunswick; Rev. J.A. BABINEAU, cure of Tracadie, N.B.; Rev. Maxime P. BABINEAU, Caraquet; Madame Fidele POIRIER, Shediac. Two years after his marriage, Amable Leger and others commenced the settlement of the district now known as Barachois, Aboushagan. (see original)
