The death of Robert Barry CHAPMAN occurred at Dorcheter (West. Co.) yesterday at the residence of his son, R.A. CHAPMAN, Esq., ex-sheriff of Westmorland. Deceased was born in Dorchester in 1801 and at the time of his death the only surviving nephew of late Bishop BLACK, founder of Methodism in the Maritime Provinces. Left a fine farm by his father and being in comfortable circumstances, the deceased entered into politics 40 years ago. He was in 1850 elected a member to the Local Legislature with three others. Mr. Chapman sold his farm and removed to Rockland with his son Robert A. CHAPMAN who engaged in ship building. He married Margaret WELDON d/o Andrew WELDON of Dorchester, by whom he had five sons and four daughters. His sons, John Weldon CHAPMAN, Charles Wesley CHAPMAN, Robert A. CHAPMAN and Henry Daniel CHAPMAN are still living in Dorchester. One son William CHAPMAN died when still quite a young man. Daughters of the deceased are married to M.R. DOBSON, Dorchester; Rufus WARD of Rockport; Capt. O'NEAL and W.B. CHAPMAN of Moncton. The posterity of John CHAPMAN, father of the deceased, as given in "History of the Blacks" written in 1883 numbered 266 living, 52 dead, a total of 318. (see original)
