Coming from Ireland a penniless boy, he makes himself in half a century the richest man on P.E.I. - Coming from Ireland in 1839 when but a stripling and almost devoid of education, he was necessarily obliged to undertake any work which came to his hand. His first employment was as a farm hand to Mr. SMALLWOOD of lot 48. After two years he purchased his own farmon the Monaghan road and married Ann HUGHES the daughter of a neighboring farmer. He brought his parents from Ireland with whom he remained on the farm until 1852 when he removed to Charlottetown where he opened a small grocery and liquor store on Dorchester St. ... About seven years ago he went to Ireland for his brother's, Felix CONNOLLY, widow and family. He took her two sons, John CONNOLLY and Patrick CONNOLLY into his employ. (see original)
