Richard C. WELDON, Penobsquis (Kings Co.), father of Dr. WELDON, M.P. for Albert Co., died at his residence in Penobsquis Tuesday last week age 77. Mr. Weldon was a native of Albert Co. and a descendant of one of the early Yorkshire immigrants. In early life he settled in Penobsquis where he conducted a tanning business. He was a leading member of the Methodist Church in his neighborhood and one of the original promoters of the total abstinence movement in that part of the country. He took a strong interest in political questions, supporting Mr. Tilley and the liberal party in old times. He was in favor of Confederation and a supporter of the liberal-conservative party in federal affairs. Mr. Weldon leaves four sons and two daughters. One daughter is the wife of Winslow McLEOD of Penobsquis. The other resided with her father. The sons are Stephen WELDON who is a farmer and lives at Penobsquis; Richard WELDON who is a Dean of the Dalhousie Law School and M.P. for Albert Co.; John WELDON who resides in Moncton and George WELDON who is member of the firm S. Hayward & Co. if St. John. Another son, Robert WELDON, died in St. John at the beginning of what promised to be a brilliant career as a barrister. Mrs. Weldon, whose maiden name was GELDART, died three years ago at the age of 76 years.
