In the death of Capt. Albert BETTS, which occurred at his residence Wednesday night, Saint John has lost one of the oldest shipping masters, he being the first man to obtain a first class certificate from the Liverpool Board. For a large number of years he sailed in vessels over large parts of the world, but more recently had spent his time as respresentative of the American Record. The deceased was born in saint John 68 years ago and was the youngest s/o late Hiram BETTS. He was grandson of Dr. Azor BETTS surgeon in the British army who came here with the Loyalists. He has three sons and two daughters living. One of his son, Capt. Henry BETTS is living in Liverpool. He is a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve and also a marine inspector. His other two sons, Albert and John BETTS are engaged in business in Portland, Oregon.
