Benjamin LAWTON, a resident of St. John, died at his home High Street Wednesday morn. Mr. Lawton had been spending the summer as usual at his country residence near Westfield. Recently he took ill and about a week ago came to the city in the hope of receiving better treatment. He will be remembered by the older generation from his connection with the shipping business. His boat yard and boat house was one of the points of interest in St. John for many years. Mr. Lawton also ran a hardware business for a time. He was interested in several vessels, one of which the "Conmore" was engaged as a whaler. He was a lover of good sport and was one of the most entusiastic swimmers and fishermen in the city. Two sons, James LAWTON and Charles LAWTON, survive him.
