The fortunes of John Buchanan following his election victory on October 6, 1981 and the other party leaders are portrayed with him sitting on a throne formed by a lighthouse and the initials PC and flicking cigar ashes on Liberal leader Sandy Cameron, while NDP leader Alexa McDonough is trying to keep from dropping off the side of a cliff.

- Premier of Nova Scotia, 1978-1990. Campaigned as "Honest John".
- Tenure saw Nova Scotia enter into massive debt
- Played an important role in the patriation of the Constitution
- Strongly allied with Brian Mulroney during Meech Lake talks
- Appointed to the Canadian Senate by Brian Mulroney in 1990. Retired at age 75 in 2006
- Accused of corruption, investigated but not charged
Alexa McDonough
- Born August 11, 1944
- New Democrat (moderate)
- Leader of the provincial NDP in Nova Scotia, 1981 to 1994
- Stepped down as leader of the Nova Scotia NDP to take over federal NDP leadership, 1994
- Won 21 seats for the party in the next election, herself as MP for Halifax
- Retired as NDP leader, 2002
- Re-elected federal MP in 2006
